A fitted sheet is not the most decorative part of the bed, but it is one of the pieces you feel most. It sits closest to you, so fit, fabric and breathability matter.
Start with the mattress size
Check whether your mattress is Double, King or another UK size before ordering. A sheet that is too small will pull up at the corners. A sheet that is too large can wrinkle underneath you.
Check the depth
Mattress depth is easy to forget. If you use a mattress topper or have a deeper mattress, make sure the sheet can wrap underneath properly. The elastic needs enough fabric to hold the sheet in place.
Choose a breathable fabric
Because fitted sheets sit directly against the body, natural cotton is a good everyday choice. Cotton percale gives a crisp, clean base layer and works especially well with duvet sets in different textures.
Why white is useful
A white fitted sheet pairs with almost any duvet cover. It keeps the bed fresh and simple, whether you are styling white ruffles, natural stripes, eucalyptus muslin or mineral blue cotton.
How many fitted sheets do you need?
Two per bed is a sensible starting point: one on the bed, one ready for wash day. Add a third if drying space is limited or the bed is used every day.
